Weekend Update 28/4/2019

This week was a busy one with one filled with logistics for Simba’s trip from Malaga to his new home outside of Barcelona. Thankfully everything went according to plan and he arrived safe and sound! We worked with MWR on the transport. They are the same company that we worked with to transport Prince (now Dexter). The process isn’t as difficult as it would appear to be, and both animals seemed to have been cared for and given the urgency their transport required. Transporting animals is new to us and so with every transport situation, it’s an opportunity to learn. Are there any transport services in Spain that you have worked with? We’d love to hear your suggestions!

With his safe arrival, Simba walked out of his crate and immediately began exploring his new home. His new family loves him to pieces and already couldn’t imagine their life without him. He is in very good hands! Biggest thank you to the Hooper-Diaz fam for opening their hearts and home to this chubby 13 year old cat who needed people to love. He (and we) are forever grateful.

Kiwi, the cat that we brought to a foster home last week, is doing very well! We think he was dropped off because of some litter-box issues, but they haven’t proved to be a problem in his foster home. Which just goes to show that with a little effort and work from humans, the chance we take on every animal is worth it. He is ready to meet potential adopters now! So get in line!

With good always comes bad, and with that, a TWO new dogs were dumped at the shelter in Cubelles this week. Lola is 9 years old and is suffering from a severe limp in her back leg that makes it very hard for her to stand up and walk around. Because of this, she sadly spends most of her time laying on the ground. Her owners likely dropped her off because of her leg and now she’s been left to suffer in the shelter alone. She is a Rottweiler with the biggest heart for all humans and animals alike. We vow to find this sweetheart the home she deserves.

The other dog who came in is named Damian. He is so traumatized that he spent the entire time hiding in his kennel structure. He is suffering a lot and will not do well mentally or physically if kept there much longer.

This week we welcomed a new team member to Gatalunya and she’s already off and running to improve the living conditions for the dogs! She’s created a GoFundMe to raise money for dog beds. The sad reality is that they spend most of their days inside a cage and without any bed to cushion them from the hard, filthy cement. Katrina is out to change this! With your help, by providing a comfort as simple as a place to lay, you will improve the quality of life for these dogs immensely.

There’s about 20 dogs left at the shelter in Cubelles right now and with the Catalan elections being held today, the uncertainty of their residence lays heavy on our shoulders. If you think you’d be a good match for adoption or fostering, please do not hesitate to reach out.
