Weekend Update 21/4/2019

Starting spring off strong with lots of rescue work! Catching up on two weeks of updates with this post, so here goes:

Last weekend we were given an hours notice that a stray cat was being brought in to the shelter. We knew little about him other than he was found around the same area as Zelda, one of the other cats recently dropped off. We scrambled to find a foster home while we waited for his arrival. And he arrived just in the knick of time! Gatalunya team members Anne and Elin brought him to the vet for vaccinations, tests, and a quick check-up before he took his freedom ride to Barcelona. He’s been named Bowie and has found himself a purrfect foster home in the city. We’re hoping to start inviting potential adopters to come meet him shortly!

In a similar vein, this week we were once again notified of a cat being dropped off at the shelter. Kiwi came from a house nearby where he was no longer wanted by his mom. He spent two terrifying nights at the shelter before our team was able to get there to pick him up, swing by the vet, and bring him to his new foster home in Barcelona. We’re not quite sure why he wasn’t wanted, but we’re happy he’s out of that environment and has moved into a new one where he can be given the love and attention he deserves. Like Bowie, we hope to begin inviting potential adopters to come meet him very soon.

In the theme of adoptions, the youngest animal associated with Gatalunya has found herself a loving home with an incredible family in Sitges. The long search this sweet puppy went through ended up being worth it! The little sweetheart has started her new life as a beach babe and we couldn’t be happier for her!

We’re also very happy to announce the pre-adoption of Simba! Simba was brought to our attention by a kind woman named Gemma who lives in the south of Spain. A couple of neighbors are moving back to Norway and instead of bringing their cat with them, they wanted to put him to sleep. She couldn’t believe this is something someone would do and started a search for a new home. We’ve been sharing her posts for a few weeks and have so happily found him the purrfect place to live out his days! He will be moving to a vineyard outside of Barcelona with a sister cat named Jiji. This is all possible to the wonderful Gaby of Gato Garden and her family. We couldn’t be more thankful to have you guys in our lives!

A brief update on the shelter: there’s about 18-20 dogs left there, all of which are still looking for homes for. The majority of them have profiles on our website. If you or a friend are interested, please do not hesitate to contact us! We have no information on when or if the shelter will close soon, but with the upcoming government elections just under a few weeks away, we are very anxious that it could happen any day. We continue our fight to find loving homes for each and every one of them.

In a last note, we have some more Gatalunya gear to add to the Spring style collection! These two designs are not only super badass, but the profits go to supporting our cause for helping animals in need all across Spain!

The woodblock design was made by M. Pickman who lives and works in Savannah, Georgia where he shares his home and studio with two cats of his own: Patchy and St. Pepper.

The Gatalnuya logo was designed by Jill Olchawa, a Chicago-based graphic designer by day and rock bassist by night. She is a black cat-mom herself and wouldn’t have it any other way.

BIG thank you to Mark and Jill for your donations of time and creative talents to help us in this adventure of saving the animals. We couldn’t do this without you!
