Shelter Visit 26/01/2019
It was another successful week at the shelter! Lots of the animals that we have been working a long time on finding homes for are finally out and into the loving hearts of their forever owners. It’s weeks like these that remind us why we do what we do. It’s all for the happiness of these guys!
The morning started out cold. This always brings us hesitation and worry knowing that the animals are forced to sleep outside and some are without blankets or anywhere warm to rest their bodies. The same can be said in the summer with the heat, but it‘s always a little harder to bear in the winter.
Elin, Siiri, and Tom headed the team this week with help from three new volunteers that contacted us through social media. This has been one of our most successful outlets to finding support and resources. It’s heartwarming to know that even through the surface of a screen, there are people out there that are ready to help! Thank you to these volunteers! Your time with the animals is so important. You’re giving them social time, attention, and love: all the things that they lack during the week. We are so lucky to have people like you joining this adventure.
The biggest news this week comes with the adoption of Marley! Marley is one of the longest-standing cats at the shelter and who needed the love and attention of a very special person. She is a timid girl, but has a lot of love to give, and we knew finding the right person was going to be a challenge. Luckily when her adopter came along, we knew right away it was a good fit! And just like that, Marley has a home! Thank you for being the kind and patient person for Marley! We are so happy she has found you. And again a big thank you to Marley’s foster family for allowing her to live in a warm place with lots of love and attention during the last two weeks. We are forever grateful for your help.
We’re also happy to announce to adoption of Madonna! Madonna is Sarah’s all time favorite dog at the shelter and the hunt to find her a good, loving home was a tough one. She couldn’t have just gone to anybody; Madonna needed a family with the time, energy, and love to give her attention and have patience in letting her learn how to be a dog. She spent a long time unsure of when to trust humans, but with her new parents she doesn’t have to worry at all! So happy for Madonna and her forever family! Thank you for opening your hearts and home to this sweet girl!
Our last adoption was with Sirius! He’s a relatively new dog to the shelter, but one that needed to find a home fast due to the stress that being there caused him. He was found one morning a few weeks back tied to the metal gate of the shelter. Someone had left him there because they were too coward to bring him in themselves. As sad as this is, it happens often. The anxiety of being around so many other dogs, the constant barking, the cold nights, little food, and little attention was very hard for him. Thankfully he has found his forever home and is now safe in the arms of someone that will love him throughout his days.
As friendly reminder: a pet is for life. A portion of our lives are spent with them, but all of their lives are spent with us. So be good to them. Take care of them. Love them like there’s no tomorrow.
If you’re thinking of adopting or are interested in foster, please don’t hesitate to reach out! There are many animals with lots of love to give that could really use your help. Each family comes with their own personality and we understand the importance of matching that with your new found lovie. The majority of the animals aren’t even listed anywhere online, including our own website, due to the fact that there are just so many. But we know them all very well and are happy to introduce you to any that might be a good match for your lifestyle! Take a look!
Marley in her new forever home! Her adopter made a special castle for her to hide in the first few days while she gets used to things at her new place. A thoughtful gesture!
