Shelter Visit 23/2/2019

We announced some big news yesterday: the last two cats have officially been taken from the shelter and adopted! This is very emotional for us, as we have been working together towards this goal since August, 2018. Back then we had over 30 cats in the shelter, all living in 3 cages! It was a horrific sight, one that we couldn’t look away from, and one that refused to accept. And guys, we did it!

But looking back on the past seven months, and knowing what great challenges we had to overcome to get to this point, it’s very clear that we couldn’t have done it without you all and our extended team of supporters. All you guys make our voices stronger and give us the power to do what we do. Thank you again. Truly.

Sweet Dali and Picasso have found a home with the most wonderful family who have the energy and patience to give them the time they need to come to trust humans again. They will be loved. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for Sinéad and her family. Thank you for opening your hearts to these two goofs.

We continue our call to action of emptying the shelter. And with no cats left, we turn our full attention to the dogs. As of right now, there are over 35 dogs at the shelter. All of which deserve a loving home and someone to call their own. They sleep outside, in the cold temperatures of winter, and wake to a frosted ground. Some of the dogs aren’t allowed pillows or bedding because their anxiety-derived behavior pushes them to chew and destroy them.

Many of the dogs suffer from some form of anxiety caused by the stress of not only being locked in a cage, but also surrounded by other, anxious, barking dogs. The envionrmnent is not healthy for them and they need out. They deserve more.

Again our mission starts with the basic: empty the cages.

With the looming threat of the closure of the shelter, we are motivated more than ever to find homes for these guys. Time is literally running out.

Again we urge you to join us in this fight, perhaps the fnal one for this shelter, and get involved. There are many ways international readers can aid us:

1: Donations: as always, these donations go directly to medical expenses for the animals. Many of them are not in great health and have never seen a vet in their entire lives (Example: Sol). We aim to get every single one of the dogs to the vet for their vaccinatoins, check ups, and castrations. A healthy dog is the first dog to be adopted.

2: Sharing, liking, and commenting on our social media posts. The algorithms of Facebook and Instagram are designed so that the more people who like or comment on a photo, the more publically seen the photo becomes. Please like and comment on as many as you can!

3: Adopting or fostering: we would love to work on internatoinal adoptions with any interested persons! Please don’t think that because you are far away that one of these guys couldn’t be your soulmate. Love knows no boundaries.

We are very excited for the success we have had in the past week of connecting fosters with their foster pups here in Barcelona and look forward to facilitating more in the coming weeks! There are 3 dogs in the running to get out this week, so please keep all your fingers and paws crossed for their release!

Let’s do this!!!!!!
